After studying the card at Gulfstream, our handicapper Carl Nicholson has three recommended plays.
Best Bet: SOLE VOLANTE - RACE 9
This looks a good Allowance Optional with some solid form lines brought into the contest. The starting point has to be ETE INDIEN who won a Grade 2 contest two starts ago by a wide margin. He also has a good record at Gulfstream, which is another tick in the box, but one negative is the addition of blinkers for the first time. I don’t get the angle the barn are trying with this and it may indicate he has not been working well recently. SOLE VOLANTE has a great profile and he has run deep in some quality races, very consistent and I do like his chances. SHIVAREE is yet another bringing solid form to the table and while not having the depth to his form the other two mentioned have he is a solid yardstick that looks sure to hit the frame. Of the others WITH VERVE is worth a mention who is going back up in trip from sprinting, he has a bit to find and was disappointing the last time at a mile, but he has improved since then and may be one to throw in the exotics.
Alarm bells are sounding a bit for me with the headgear on ETE INDIEN, so I will go with SOLE VOLANTE who has a much more appealing profile. WITH VERVE & SHIVAREE are two to throw into the mix for the exotic plays.
OTHER PLAYS
RACE 8 – TIPLE
This looks a super trick puzzle on paper with plenty bringing form that could see them winning. AWSUM ROAR ran well over track and trip when last seen and a repeat of that run must give her a decent chance. HEIR BAIL has run well at a lower level and this sort of company does look a bit beyond her. WORTH AVENUE would be one to watch out for if this switched to the main track. But I am going with TIPLE who finished off her race really strongly last time out and the pace that looks signed on for this could set it up for her run style.
RACE 4 – VIPER
Not a great maiden claiming, but TEMPUS showed his best form last time out in this grade of race. He has a solid look to his chances for me. VIPER might be the main danger however and our pick. This unexposed sort is dropping in grade this time, and the form of some of his runs is strong compared to most of the rivals and he has a very good chance in my view.
