Tom Dodd previews Wednesday’s meet at Kentucky Downs and has four picks worth wagering on.
Kentucky Downs R1
Irad Ortiz Jr takes over on board TAMANRASSETT and rates a confident selection in the opener. The juvenile from the Eddie Kenneally barn ran with huge promise on his debut to finish second at Ellis Park when relatively unfancied and can step up on that effort today. Hard Rye Guy rates a danger as he was well-backed last time when disappointing – watch how he goes in the betting market again.
Kentucky Downs R2
A race full of old favorites. RUN TAPPY is predicted to outrun his (suspected) long odds here and can follow up on an impressive win last time out at Louisiana Downs. William Meaux’s six-year-old gelding has bounced back to form in his last two starts and it’d be foolish writing him off from going back-to-back.
Kentucky Downs R4
JUGGERNAUGHT drops in trip today having finished second over one mile at Indiana and that shouldn’t inconvenience this three-year-old who is already a winner over five furlongs earlier in his career. He was only beaten a neck on that occasion and can put the weight he receives from the older horses to good use here. Another three-year-old in the line-up Williston Way is a danger.
Kentucky Downs R7
Dropping from Grade 1 company today, MUGGSAMATIC really should be back in the winners’ enclosure today. The drop in trip should also hold no fears for Muggsamatic having won plenty of times over this trip in the past. It wasn’t a bad effort in the United Nations at Monmouth, but will be much more at home in calmer waters today.
