Free Horse Racing Picks at Delta Downs - Monday February 1

Andrew Champagne previews the late pick four at Delta Downs on Monday.

Monday begins a new week of racing at Delta Downs, and the nine-race program that kicks it off is a very competitive one. I’m intrigued by the late Pick Four sequence, where I’ll advise a $36 ticket that does not contain a single…well, single. Here’s how I’ll play it.

RACE #6: We get a full field right away in the first leg of the sequence, a $5,000 claiming event for older fillies and mares. The morning line man thinks a recent maiden-breaker for powerhouse connections will be a heavy favorite, but while I’m using that runner, she’s not my top pick.

I’m looking forward to seeing if #10 LINDA’S LEGACY can work out a trip from the far outside post. She almost certainly needed her last-out effort, which doubled as her first race in nearly 11 months. Stretching back out to two turns should help her, and anything close to her second-place effort at this route two back would give her a big shot.

Have you signed up to TVG yet? You can get a 50% bonus on your first deposit, up to a value of $250. You could then put that wagering credit, of up to $250, on Andrew's picks today.

Here's how to claim:

1 - Open a TVG account HERE

2 - Register using code GET250 and make a deposit.

3 – Get a 50% bonus on your first bonus.

4 – Use that free wagering credit.

5 - If it wins, enjoy your winnings!

#7 LOUISIANA SPECIAL makes sense, and I’m using her, but from the perspective of a win bet, 9/5 seems a bit short. In fact, I’m also using #2 HEATHER DIVINE and #4 TYPHOON ZING, both of whom could also provide some value if the likely chalk fails to fire.

RACE #7: Nine older horses will head to the gate for this one, a $4,000 claimer for non-winners of two in the past 12 months. Again, the Karl Broberg barn saddles the likely favorite. Again, I’m using him…and again, he’s not my top selection.

#7 THAT’S D ‘CAT intrigues me, especially at or near his 6-1 morning line price. He stepped forward in a big way against restricted claiming foes last time out, when he was a close-up third beaten less than two lengths. He hasn’t won in a while, but some of his best efforts have come over this track and it’s possible he’s figured things out since his return to the Dale White barn.

#1 HARDLY SEEN SLIM makes sense if he gets a smooth trip, but that’s been a problem for him at times and I don’t love horses like this drawing the rail. In addition to that one, #5 BAJAN CASH also makes my ticket. The faster they go early, the better his chances figure to be, and I think there’s some speed signed on that could set the table for him to come rolling late.

RACE #8: Things don’t get much easier in this sprint for older fillies and mares. I’m going three-deep, and while the favorite’s my top pick this time, it’s not like I think she’s a cinch.

#3 WILD MALLORY makes her second start off the bench, and she takes a significant drop in class. She showed speed against $10,000 claimers last time out, and she faces state-bred foes running for half that price in this spot. She won’t be alone up front, but her best race would likely beat this group.

I’ll also use #7 GOLDEN BET and #8 JENNIFER’S ARCH. The former is another dropping from open $10,000 claimers to the $5,000 state-bred ranks, while the latter has run well twice since being claimed by a barn enjoying plenty of success from a small sample size this meet.

RACE #9: We finish things off with holder horses going seven furlongs. The big question here is a simple one: What do we do with #5 J S BACH?

The 9/5 morning line choice is making his 9-year-old debut, and he’s got races from a few years ago that would trounce this bunch. He’s run Beyer Speed Figures in the mid-90’s, and anything close to that form would mean the race will be for second money. However, those races were from 2018 and 2019, and he’s never raced over this bullring track.

I need to use one other runner in trying to end on a winning note. I’m throwing in #9 TAKE CHARGE CHASE, who ships in from Fair Grounds for Broberg. His lone start over a fast dirt track here was a win, and he’s got enough tactical speed to work out a trip from the outside post.
