Carl Nicholson takes us through his selections for Sunday's meet at Santa Anita.
RACE OF THE DAY RACE 8
This looks a fascinating 2 year old Stakes contest and one that should produce plenty of future winners. QUEENGOL showed a very good game attitude to get the job done on debut and certainly looks to have a very bright future. KALYPSO was the one to give the latter most to think about, but was readily put away late on and has something to find to turn that form around. FOREST CARAWAY ran very well to be runner up in a Grade 1 contest last time out, may be that was not the strongest for the grade but it certainly puts her in with a very big shout.
I liked the way QUEENGOL put away KALYPSO on debut, she was just out under minimum pressure to go away near the finish and was never stronger than at the line.
SMOOTH LIKE STRAIT came up short in the hat-trick bid last time out, but there was not shame in that and he could get back on track once again. FIELD PASS has plenty of form that would see him in with a fair shout in this contest and has to be respected. EXPRESS TRAIN seems to be improving and while this is a step up in competition he has a likeable attitude and should go well. FARMINGTON ROAD ran well enough in the Grade 1 Belmont to think this is a very winnable race on that form alone. He scored well last time out and must have a good chance of following up.
A tough looking race to solve with plenty in with chances, but I like FARMINGTON ROAD because he has the strongest form lines coming into this.
PRIVATE MISSION cost a lot of money and with a top barn it would be no surprise to see her oblige first time up.
