Free Horse Racing Picks at Delta Downs - Tuesday February 9

Andrew Champagne previews the late pick four at Delta Downs on Tuesday.

Monday was a good day for me in this section. My ticket scratched down to $12, but it returned $85 and change when last-leg single Sidasta rolled home as the 6/5 favorite. As I tweeted after the results went official, it’s another entry in the, “it isn’t sexy, but the math checks out,” chronicles.

I’m back at Delta Downs Tuesday for their late sequence, which begins in the sixth of nine races. Once again, I’ve got a single in the last leg, and I’ll play a ticket that hopes to extract value out of this horse. Here’s a closer look at my $18 play.

RACE #6: Right off the bat, we’re faced with what I thought was the most wide-open race of the sequence. It’s a claiming event for older state-breds, and while I’m using #4 KINLEE’S SONG, I didn’t think one could have much confidence in a horse with no wins on its recent page in the form.

#2 SAILING JETT hits me as a potential “light bulb” play. It took him a while to break his maiden, but he looked pretty good when graduating by nearly seven lengths last time out at this route of ground. His best races have come here at Delta, and he’s got the speed necessary to get in a good spot early.

In addition to Kinlee’s Song, I’ll also use #5 READY REDDING and #7 SMOOTH CURRENT. Ready Redding is another horse with a few solid local races on his sheet, including a last-out win at this route. He’s run pretty well in most of his local efforts and hits me as an overlay at his 15-1 morning line price.

RACE #7: We’ve got a full field set to go postward for this one, and I thought it was a fun betting race. #8 QUEEN GIGI might go favored, but I think she’ll drift up a bit from her 9/5 morning line price, so I have no issue going three-deep while still including her.

On top, though, I prefer #6 SILENT TRICK, who was second against similar company last week. She was probably too far back early on that day, but even so, she’s yet to run worse than second in three starts at this route this meet. She clearly likes this trip, and I think she’s got a big shot.

#4 OLIVIA’S DUCHESS is on my ticket as well. Both of her wins have come at this 6 1/2-furlong distance, and if she adds a third here without being on my ticket, I’ll be very upset. Since I’ve got more than enough room in my budget, I’m throwing her in despite the barn’s recent cold spell.

RACE #8: Here’s where I take a bit of a stand. I’m not the biggest fan of #3 ALTERANA, this race’s 9/5 morning line choice. He’s been at this level a long time, and he’s a closer who seems to need a lot to go right. With that in mind, I’ll try to beat him.

#7 REACH THE CIRCLE and #4 SEELEY ran 1-2 at this route last month, and I’m using both runners. The former was claimed by Karl Broberg after that victory, while the latter may be coming into the best race of his form cycle third off the layoff. Neither would surprise me here.

I’m adding #8 HAIL STATE, who’s a big price despite a win and a third in two starts at this track. He was beaten just a half-length at this level and route last time out, and that day’s second-place finisher has since come back to win. At his price, I need to have him on my ticket.

RACE #9: I mentioned I’ve got a single in the finale for the second straight day. As much as I’d like to get cute and find ways to go against the 6/5 morning line favorite, I can’t do that here.

#5 TIN DELAY is probably in a “now or never” situation. He’s hit the board in all but one of his five starts at Delta, and he was claimed out of his last race by a barn that’s hit the board with 12 of 16 runners at the meet. I’m hoping to get a price or two home early in the sequence so we can once again turn a short-priced favorite into an attractive wagering proposition.
